Description
So, last week I had to put Bear down. Bear was my studio rat for anyone who doesn't know.
He lived to be 3 years, which is crazy old for a rat. He was a tough little guy, and it just broke my heart to have to put him down. His health declined rapidly over just a matter of days. I hoped he would just go peacefully in his sleep, but being the little fighter he is he just kept truckin, despite his absolute misery. I know it was the right thing to do for him, but it never gets any easier making that decision. Rats tend to have terrible ends to their lives... I've only had 2 out of 13 now that have gone peacefully in their sleep
Anyways, to combat the sadness, I spent the weekend making rat magnets for my fridge. I made all my past little rat buddies, and used them to hold up pictures of themselves. I got pretty teary while I was making Bear (bottom left) so I made a necklace just like it for myself as well.
I really loved making these little guys, and they look so stinkin cute scurrying about on my fridge. I think I'll make them one of the few made-to-order items available in the shop soon, so other ratty owners can get their little friends made too if they like
Here they are on my fridge:
Hand sculpted from Premo Sculpey clay, details painted in acrylics, swarovski crystal eyes, about 2.5 inches from nose to tail tip.
QUESTIONS???
Please visit my FAQ page [link] before asking questions about techniques and materials. Just about every question I get is covered there. I’m not trying to be rude, I just get tired of answering the same questions over and over
