Ratty Magnets by DragonsAndBeasties Ratty Magnets by DragonsAndBeasties
So, last week I had to put Bear down. Bear was my studio rat for anyone who doesn't know.

He lived to be 3 years, which is crazy old for a rat. He was a tough little guy, and it just broke my heart to have to put him down. His health declined rapidly over just a matter of days. I hoped he would just go peacefully in his sleep, but being the little fighter he is he just kept truckin, despite his absolute misery. I know it was the right thing to do for him, but it never gets any easier making that decision. Rats tend to have terrible ends to their lives... I've only had 2 out of 13 now that have gone peacefully in their sleep :(

Anyways, to combat the sadness, I spent the weekend making rat magnets for my fridge. I made all my past little rat buddies, and used them to hold up pictures of themselves. I got pretty teary while I was making Bear (bottom left) so I made a necklace just like it for myself as well.

I really loved making these little guys, and they look so stinkin cute scurrying about on my fridge. I think I'll make them one of the few made-to-order items available in the shop soon, so other ratty owners can get their little friends made too if they like :)

Here they are on my fridge:

Hand sculpted from Premo Sculpey clay, details painted in acrylics, swarovski crystal eyes, about 2.5 inches from nose to tail tip.

Please visit my FAQ page [link] before asking questions about techniques and materials. Just about every question I get is covered there. Iím not trying to be rude, I just get tired of answering the same questions over and over ^^;

I recently lost my two rats as well.  Sigyn was sickly for a long time, but Rajani, while covered in tumors, seemed otherwise healthy and entirely happy until she passed away over night unexpectedly last week.  I love that you've captured how adorable they really are.  Your rats look cute and sweet, which was always how I found them.

Aww.... so sorry I know how it feels :cry: rvmp . I've been through 4 rat deaths..... not as many as you but it seems a lot.... Any way I'm sorry for your loss. I just lost my little albino Snowy :( he died from a wound from an abscess. But I do love these little fridge magnets!  In fact I think I can see some of my little boys amongst them!

My condolences on you loss. The little boogers arent with us for long but they do make a huge impact. I had rats since 2000 but after my last one passed a year and a half ago I decided no more, at least for now, which has been extremely hard for me. I still look whenever I go to any pet store.

Have you had any plans on commissioning for these? I would love a set.

I'm really sorry about Bear, but I bet you gave him a good life... One of my rats passed away a short while ago, and I fear her sister's time will come pretty soon as well, as they were both pretty old for being rats :( Hugs to you, and thanks for your awesome work!
