Pastel Rainbow Pegasus Necklace by DragonsAndBeasties Pastel Rainbow Pegasus Necklace by DragonsAndBeasties
So this little cutie has actually been just hanging out in my studio for a while. I just keep forgetting to put her in my sales! I got it into my head one day a while back to make flat-backed pony pendants. I do like them, and they are much more durable and compact this way than 3D pendants, but I decided not to move forward with them. Pendants and charms make me nervous. If the person wearing them doesn't understand that they ARE still able to break, and treats them roughly, one good yank or whack against something hard could send one of those tiny curls flying! Soooo that's why I don't tend to make pendants anymore. They stress me out too much :XD:

It would be cool if I could come up with some sort of mold for pony pendants that would use a much more durable material. Being flat, they might actually mold well! I do really like them, so I might look into that more sometime. What do you guys think?

Handsculpted with Premo Sculpey clay, about 1.5 inches long

Molded ones would be really cool--if they can be fairly detailed, and maybe multicolored as above!  [IMHO]  This one, in any case, is very cute, and those tail curls are the most amazing!  I love the faces on your ponies--they have such an earnest cuteness with the big eyes and no mouth....:iconadorableplz:

Sorry, but I hope you never make them out of a mold. The fact that you hand make each and every one of them is what makes them special and unique. If you just start pressing them out of a mold it takes all of that away. Keep your art yours and not some cookie cutter object.

I know how to handle handmade things carefully, but there have been so many times where my bf has destroyed them in seconds. Especially when I used to handsew before I got my machine... He grabbed a skirt I was wearing and the entire bottom of it ripped off! Luckily that was BEFORE we left the house...

Aww so cute. I feel similarly about people breaking something like that. I used to make little cats out of pipecleaners (nothing like as skilled as the things you make XD) and I had a method for making them, and I started a little club where we built little houses for the cats. It amazed me how quickly some got broke...
Random, but yeah. Very adorable pegasus, anyway!

And that's exactly why I haven't moved forward on making keychains or earrings. Clay is just too fragile!
I've been considering making and painting resin casts, but I haven't really looked into it all that much.

I think it's a great idea! Finding a mold would definitely help, but if not I'm sure whoever would buy them would treat them nicely :) I would buy one!

So precious!  I totally hear you on pendants and charms being stressful.  That's one of the reasons I stopped doing them as well.  No matter how much I tried to reinforce the clay and make it strong, I always worried about it breaking. ><  The bottle cap sculptures that I make tend to be a little more durable with the fact that they are set into the metal cap, but even then I really worried about pieces breaking off(even though I mention using care with them, I recently had an Etsy customer leave feedback that my bottle cap sculptures were very fragile :( ).  I recently started experimenting with making resin casts of my sculptures, and I'm really liking it!  The resin is a million times more durable than the clay, so I feel much better about using them for charms and jewelry. :)

I love the idea of pendants.  :)  I think it's lovely, and as a nice option to have your little critter easily come with you wherever you go.  It's just up to the owner to be extra careful!

awwww~~~~ this is adorable!
I can understand your fear of the owners breaking these pendants. but all you can do is tell them about the danger of breaking them. I think it's actually pretty clear that they are breakable and need to be handled with care....

and may I just say again how adorable that little pegasus is? I absolutely adore the colours!

I think it's a good idea to try for a mold.  It won't look quite as cool as the hand-made ones, but you'd be able to make more of them and therefore make more available for selling :)

You could use silicone to make a mold, and then make a resin copy. That seems to work quite well. Feel free to msg me for more info on that :)
