Mickie by DragonsAndBeasties Mickie by DragonsAndBeasties
A shot of Mickie. He was kind of hard to photograph because of his pose. He just doesn't look as awesome in photos as he does in person D:

Here he is with his friend Willie:

I just love his face. I purposefully left the ears a bit large just to add a small touch of the dragonsandbeasties cuteness. There are a couple minor issues here and there, but over all I am really happy with how he came out!

The dappling down his chest and belly was a lot of fun to figure out. It was done in acrylics. I'll get progression shots of him posted soon :)

Handsculpted by me from Premo Sculpey clay, 4 inches tall

QUESTIONS???

These are gorgeous, I love them. Becca, if I may ask, how do you get the paint to come out so smooth? Do you use a primer or something? I always end up having brushstrokes, no matter how soft the brush or how long I wait in between layers. I use acrylic paint for polymer clay, just like you, but I mainly use Artist Loft and Reeves brand. I checked your FAQ before asking this, btw.

I'll go over everything in the progression photos, but basically it's better if you can dry brush several coats, rather than applying a few thick ones. It's slower but looks much better. Part of her I made whit to begin with so that helps out a lot with the paint coat. I'll have the progression tutorial thingy up later tonight or tomorrow so you can see how I did it all :)

By dry brush, do you mean doing a once-over with the paint and doing several layers of that?

Hmmm...it's kind of difficult to explain... You just take some paint on the brush, then wipe most of it of. It makes a really thin coat. If you google dry brushing you can probably find a video that shows it. It's one of those things that makes way more sense when you see it being done :XD:

Ohhh, the way you do when you shade paint. Thanks, Becca! It makes more sense now.
